I THINK I was able to get this hammered out.  However, I'm not convinced that all of my emails were sent.  I did receive several "delivery failure" bouncebacks, which was due to mis-typed addresses, so that told me that some emails went out.  I did not receive a bulk email confirmation, which I usually do.  Other Admin-level subscribers have mentioned that they didn't receive it either.

What could possibly be going wrong at this point and how can I confirm the number of mails sent?

To add an amendment, I found this error in my Event Viewer:

Do you have an user without a valid email address in your addressed role?

That is very likely, since the newsletter I'm sending goes to over 3500 subscribers. I do receive bouncebacks.  Some get the letter, some don't - even those with valid emails don't get some of them.

that's a large number of subscribers and I'd suggest to look for a 3rd party solution, because the built in newsletter does not use a queue, only a separate thread in async mode, which means that all unsend messages will be lost on an app restart.
