My log file has grown to over 46 Gig and now my DNN site is down. All I get is "An error occurred" when I try to view the site.  Being new to SQL Server I didn't set up a maintenance plan, I will once I solve this problem.

I've tried Backup/Restore, Truncate, and Shrinking but nothing has reduced the size of the log file.  One thing that did work was exporting the data and then importing it into a new database.  Please note, I'm talking about using SQL Server's export feature and not the export feature found in modules.

However, DNN will not read the new database after I change the settings so that it points to it.

I'm running on my own dedicated servers with DNN running on one server (Win 2003 Web Ed) and SQL 2000 running on a second server (Win 2003 Std Ed).

Is there a way to change the database used by DNN?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Sometimes when a logfile has grown very large truncating it (either via script) or else full database backup, then the file will not release all it's space back to the operating system. To try to resolve this, do the following:

DBCC SHRINKDATABASE (yourdatabase, 10)
GO

then run this:

USE yourdatabase
SELECT FILE_ID('yourdatabase')
go

record the id that's given, as you'll use it in the next statement

USE yourdatabase
GO
DBCC SHRINKFILE (idfromthesecondstatement, 100)

(that statement tries to reduce the physical size of the database to 100mb)
