Hi,

I'm a complete novice in DNN and struggling on how to get started, I've downloaed the install package and have got that up and running after much trial & error! on my PC. Have been using Dreamweaver for years, is it best to stick to this or use VWD 2008 Express? I'm not sure where I should be editing the files, in Dreamweaver or in IE browser? When I set up a new site in Dreamweaver do I use the files on my C: drive? and then upload to the Virtual Directory in IIS?

Also, if I build a nav bar in Dreamweaver using CSS, can that be inserted into a DNN page? or do I need to use one from the DNN modules?

Sorry about all the questions but I don't where to start, my head is spinning, is there a guide to show me how step by step for a dummy like me?  Would appreciate some words of wisdom.

Thanks,   Pete

i dont know anything about dreamweaver, so i cannot help you with that.

dnn navigation is dynamic, fed from pages in the db. It is useless to create an external static navigation, as it will not plug into dnn. Please read the skinning guide to find out more about dnn skinning, available here: http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Support/Documentation/DownloadableFiles/tabid/478/Default.aspx

an updated version of dnn 5 skin objects is available here: http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Development/Forge/GroupSkinning/Downloads/tabid/1254/Default.aspx

Hi Pete,
If you develop your site in local development you may use VWD because it is easy to use and give you the language syntax not like in Dreamweaver, but if you are not doing local development I recommend to use dreamweaver because it is faster. The bad thing in Dreamweaver is you must know the language syntax you want otherwise you will be really frustated to check the syntax.

For the nav bar, Dotnetnuke have is own token menu that you can use. Or you can purchase other menu module like snapsis menu or free one like housemenu.
Hope this help.
