Hi guys,

I recently downloaded DotNetNuke 5 and after a few teething issues I had managed to get it up and running, also this is my first time using DNN. So far so good! Now for the next step, creating a custom modules. Basically what I wanted to do is write my modules in C# and add them to my DNN web site, quite a few people seem to have done this with success and there are a lot of guides and start kits available to make this easier. (For example: http://www.bitethebullet.co.uk/DNN4CSharpTemplate/tabid/79/language/en-US/Default.aspx - for reference i was using the VS2008 starter kit). However unfortunately most of the guides are built for prior versions of DotNetNuke and at least for me, are not easily translated to apply to DNN 5. Is there some documentation, tutorial or guide for a simple way to create and add modules through DNN 5, because that would be very much appretiated.

Thanks guys!

I'd suggest to check out the module development tutorials at dotnetnuke.adefwebserver.com

Though most of them have been written for DNN4, development has not much changed in DNN5.

Okay, development aside I was just checking out one of the development tutorials for a Survey Module located here: http://www.adefwebserver.com/DotNetNukeHELP/DNN4%5FSurveyModule/Survey_Module3.htm - Now once we get to the "Configure the Module" step in that tutorial, I navigate to the "Host menu", then I select "Module Definitions". So far so good, next i click on "Create New Module". At this point there is clearly a difference in the DNN5 version, is says: "The DNN_Survey.dnn file (created in the earlier step) will be detected. Select it from the drop-down " however there is no drop down! The only thing I can think of is that the drop down box does not appear because at the point i have not implemented or created any custom modules (hence no drop down). What am I missing?

I've just got started with DNN and ran into the same problem which almost made me switch to another CMS it was so fustrating, so thought I'd sign up and post the fix for anyone else who stumbles onto this forum.

It's quite straight forward, just look at the top left of the page and switch from 'View' mode, to 'Edit' mode. the drop-down should then appear.

Hope that helps!
