 For what it's worth...
Slow for me as well, plus I had my first ever case of Google Chrome tabs "locking up".  Had multiple DNN forum pages open at once.  Forums were slow but working. After a couple of hours of intermittant browsing (basically just an occasional page refresh to check for new posts) I suddenly could not scroll, highlight text, etc, and also could not close DNN forum page tabs.  These were all fully-loaded pages (i.e., I was not experiencing a lockup during page load).

Other tabs in the same Chrome browser instance continued to work perfectly and I could open/close new tabs without issue.  Eventually had to kill the entire Chrome thread to get the DNN tabs to close.  Re-opened same tabs to same DNN pages upon browser load without any issue.

I can't say the issue had a direct connection to the new DNN version and/or forums module but I also had other browsers open to other sites that were unaffected -- only the Chrome tabs open to DNN forums displayed any problem.

Try clearing your forum notification preferences (so you receive no notifications). Then after clicking update set them back to the way they were.

Why would this affect initial page loads? Notifications are sent when a reply is posted and hopefully the developer who coded that part is doing the mail stuff in a separate thread so that the web page doesn't have to wait for the mail method to return.

BTW, notifications are still not working. I read this has been fixed.

Resetting the notification preferences is a well known fix that has work for "An error has occurred." issues (nb nothing to do with fixing missing notifications). However this fix has worked for me as well when I've been missing notifications (and other people are still gettting them).

NB I'm getting notifications to the same extent as I did before - does not happen all the time. Ultimately the only real fix is to upgrade the forums module.... now that's a work in progress.
