I run a DNN site where we have customers who log on to retrieve reports.  Sometimes the reports are very large (making it impossible to e-mail them, and unsafe to just make available on an FTP server or whatnot).

I'm looking for a file sharing module that essentially gives each user their own "private" store of files.  All of the modules I've found either share files with everyone (like the Repository module) or only have group-level access.

Optimally, the module would create a folder when the user logs on (for example, D:\UserData\{UserID}\  that I could drag/drop files into and they would become available to the end user when they logged on.

The user would be "locked" into their own folder and sub-folders (a chroot jail for those Unix types out there), dis-allowing users to browse, or even be aware of, other users' files.

Has anyone seen anything like this?  I'm a classic ASP programmer... I'm *really* rusty with .NET

Thanks in advance!

I highly recommend the Document Exchange module from Bring2Mind. It does everything you ask and more. I have deployed this module for several clients with similar needs with great results.

Good morning,

I can make this module for you if you need.  I have a module already that will do this but I think it is maybe too much features for what you are asking for here, we can easily strip out the elements and streamline it into a module that meets your needs.

Please contact me directly at 250-755-6419 and www.codeheads.net to discuss

Hello,

I would recommend you take a look at Open-DocumentLibrary as one of the document management options.
http://www.opendnn.com/DNNModules/OpenDocumentLibrary/tabid/92/Default.aspx
from the above page you will be able to access additional information,  a live demo and a trial download (requires login)

O-DL allows you to assign Folder access rights at user level and to display different views according to user access rights.
Once your user's folder is setup, you can either upload documents to it through the UI, or ou can use FTP.  If using FTP, you will then need to either synchronize the fylesystem with the DB though an option in the module or you can configure a scheduled task (included with the module) to run periodically.

Having different folders accessible to different users will result in a different view for every user.  So that every user will only see its own folder.
In practice this means that if we have a structure such as:

Root Folder
... Folder for User 1
... Folder for User 2
... etc...

User 2 will only see the following:

Root Folder
... Folder for User 2

I hope this helps.

Regards,
Andreas

There are a number of ways of doing this, but keep in mind that you also want to be sure that whatever module you use, doesn't actually store them on disk with the actual file names.  As it would be possible for users to navigate directly to the files and download.  (Link sharing).

If security is really of the utmost importance, I would recommend making a custom module that handles the process for you.
