I can vouch for Open-Document Library. We use their module to basically give each user their own folders they can upload files to and some of their folders are shared so others can download. For large files we allow some people to FTP files and then we click a button and it syncs everything up.

Just FYI. Open Light Group will release a module in a few weeks that will allow users to create their own folders and upload large files using the SilverlightUploader. You can upload gigabytes worth of stuff and it will even resume if the Internet connection is broken.

As Mitchel mentions it wil not save the files with the original file name (to prevent files from being overwritten) but it will store the original name so when you download it will deliver the file with the proper name.

It also uses a "rolling repository" like we have in http://ADefHelpDesk.com "If files are uploaded to one path and the path is changed for future files, the ADefHelpDesk application will remember what location each file was uploaded to and will be able to retrieve all files."

It wont have a lot of features like complex role management ect so if you need that stuff you will still need to go with OpenDNN or BringToMind.

Another vote for Xapient's Open Document module.  Very easy to use and manage.  I have 28 different private file areas.

Thank you all for the positive feedback.

For the sake of completeness, I would like to say that Open-DocumentLibrary offers two way of storing files.  Unsecure and Secure.

In the Secure option, all files are stored on disk, but renamed with a non downloadable extension, and all access to the files is filtered so that only authorized users can access teh files.  If the user does have the appropriate rights, the file is served with the original name.

My Best,
Andreas

I'm looking for a simple solution for this as well. Document Exchange seems WAY to heavy for this. I know I can use DNN's secure folder stuff for a piece of this and can use the FileLinks.aspx functionality for another piece (as per Mitchell's blog, http://www.mitchelsellers.com/blogs/a...) But the missing piece is an easy way for my clients to get the links that they can then send to their clients.

Ventrian's File Links module makes it easy to grab the link but when an unauthenticated user goes to the link, they get a 404 error. It'd be much more ideal if this took them to a login page with a redirect back to the download after successful login.

I did notice that I can append the URL Encoded link to the login it works properly. So then I suppose the missing link is a link generator/converter. It'd probably be best to extend Vertrian's File Links module with this capability and then donate the code to Scott to share with others.
