Hello,

I am new to this module and I am perhaps asking trivial questions.
I need to implement a calendar of appointments for each registered user, only visible when the user logs in; the user should obviously see and edit his/her own appointments only. Is it possible and how?
I am reading there are subcalendars, could they be part of the solution perhaps? But what are they, more precisely?

Finally, I was looking for demo sites for this module before I install it, but could not find any.

Thank you in advance,

Franco

fprati-
Each calendar must be created manually.  Sub-calendars are no different than normal calendars except that the parent calendar displays an aggregated read-only view of all subcalendar info.

In your case where you want one calendar per user, you'd need to create a separate calendar (a separate module instance) for each user and set that module's VIEW permissions to be only for that user.  The calendar module itself is capable of scaling in this way but there is no built-in feature to set up calendars automatically.  You'll either need a custom "helper" module to auto-create a new calendar and assign exclusive VIEW rights when a user visits the page for the first time or you'll need a different calendar solution.

Also note:  If you were to create a separate calendar for each user you would have a difficult time viewing the page as an administrator due to too many module instances on the page (the page would likely time out once you had a large number of users/calendars).  This would likely make user support very difficult where calendars are concerned.

Hope that helps-

A capability that was added in 5.0.x is the possibility of having the module set up to only show event details to the event owner (or moderators/administrators). This is enabled by putting some text in the 'Private Calendar Message' box in module settings. The module then shows this message for any event in the calendar which is not your own.

Otherwise you can use sub-calendars as suggested by Mamlin. You can have a look at www.thedivingclub.co.uk on the home page and diving/social pages for the calendar in use. May not be the prettiest implementation because I know others are doing much more with the templating we have added, but it is doing the job.

Cheers
Roger

I'm trying to implement private calendars as well. I installed the Events 5.0.x and put text in the 'Private Calendar Message' box in the module settings. But it doesn't seem to work, all users can see all events (I created a few events for different users). What am I doing wrong? Is there another setting that needs to be changed?

Thanks! D

The event details should only show if the user is the event owner, a moderator or an administrator. Otherwise the event still shows in the calendar but with the text you have put in the Private Calendar Message.

If users can see the event details, make sure you have not assigned the Moderator permission to Registered Users or any other role your users are in.

Cheers
Roger
