Hello everyone,

Currently I am attempting to install DNN 04.09 on a windows 2003 server with SQL express.  I have a little experience installing DNN, but only on XP and Vista machines and not with SQL express.

After setting up my virtual directory and database I proceeded with the automatic install by navigating to localhost/dnnsite.  This succeeded without any failures.  After I clicked the link to navigate to my site I immediately got the following error:

An error has occurred

An error has occurred

Here are the steps I have taken to try and fix this (obviously to no avail)...

I have tried modifying the web.config file with minor changes, saving it, and restarting IIS

Tried removing and recreating the database file, then to reinstall the application through automatic installation.

Checked for entries in the skin and portal tables to remove any additional entries for skin or container id's in hopes of resetting the site to its default skin, didn't find any entries so possibly i'm looking in the wrong tables or they aren't there due to this being a fresh install.

Tried a fresh install

I have been searching forums online for a few weeks now and still haven't found anything to resolve this issue.  If you have any suggestions I would be eager to hear them.  Hopefully I have provided enough information, but please let me know if there is something else needed.

Thank you everyone in advance!

Hi,
Did you get anywhere with this. I'm having the same problem and have tried anything and everything. Still no progress. And same as you... I've been trying for ages! "An error has occurred. An error has occurred"

I'm having the same issue.  I've tried the install multiple times.  This last time I installed version by version from 4.9.0 to 5.4.2 one release at a time.  My homepage has no modules in it and is using the default skin.  The installs flag successful for all updates through the entire process.  5.3.1 opens fine.  Install 5.4.1 or 5.4.2 and I get a plain DNN admin screen with two lines of "an error has occurred".  I can't even login to see what it is.  Restarted IIS and no luck.

I am now getting the same error after an upgrade from 5.4.2 to 5.4.4. This is on a GoDaddy server and I do not have console access. I cannot access system logs. Any ideas where/how to start debugging?
