DNN 4.0.2 install problems

Hi gang,

I'm trying to get DNN 4.0.2 installed / configured, but am getting the following error:

Server Error in '/DOTNETNUKE' Application.

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Source Error:

The source code that generated this unhandled exception can only be shown when compiled in debug mode. To enable this, please follow one of the below steps, then request the URL:

1. Add a "Debug=true" directive at the top of the file that generated the error. Example:

  <%@ Page Language="C#" Debug="true" %>

or:

2) Add the following section to the configuration file of your application:

<configuration>
   <system.web>
       <compilation debug="true"/>
   </system.web>
</configuration>

Note that this second technique will cause all files within a given application to be compiled in debug mode. The first technique will cause only that particular file to be compiled in debug mode.

Important: Running applications in debug mode does incur a memory/performance overhead. You should make sure that an application has debugging disabled before deploying into production scenario.

Running on Windows 2003 Standard server, SQL 2000 SP4, DNN 4.0.2.

Can anyone give me some guidance here?

I just tried moving to 4.0.3 and got the same error.

I'll be happy to paste any of my config files, etc, here if they're needed for troubleshooting.

I'm not a coder, so any and all assistance will be greatly appreciated!

The error message says you are missing the connection string info in web.config file. Remember, there are two locations to edit.

10-4, I edited both locations. In fact, I went so far as to delete the section for SQL Server 2005 Express.

Other things to check...
1. Left over comment tags (unclosed comment tags)
2. Case sensitivity. web.config items in general are case sensitive.
