No, there aren't any error messages in the event log for dnn, nor any javascript error messages in lower left status bar of IE8.  It just slows down response time for everything on just that page with the large number of modules.  I can open a new tab with a new page and not experience the slowdown unless there are a large number of modules on that page as well, meaning it's not slowing down the operating system and not slowing down the browser response on other pages or tabs open in the same browser window.  Just that one page has response time slowed and only while on that page.

This is on a localhost installation only running via VWD 2005 express.  I am not running this on a production site at all.  Firewalls have nothing to do with it since localhost is not firewalled, and localhost is also in the white list for ad blocking etc.

Not true if you are using a client side firewall/privacy such ZoneAlarm - even if you do all this (as explained) the firewall interferes with localhost.....
You have to completely disable privacy/cookie setting blocking...

Just double checking - if you have any software at all installed like this it is worth completely disabling just in case (just make sure you are secure from the outside world when you do this).

I use McAfee for everything, virus scan, spam, firewall, script guard, etc.  Windows firewall is always disabled since McAfee is always on.  I disabled everything and still have the slow performance issue.  But, if no one seems to be able to repeat it, then it must be something in my particular setup.  I haven't tried a new install of the 5.1 on my pc, yet, to see if it's even just this particular install.
