Hi,

I have a situation where I need to created content on behalf of other users. I don't know their passwords so I was going to post it with my account then update the DB records with SQL to their UserID = painful.

I then thought of installing the User Identity Switcher on my live site. With this I could log in as them and it would be a lot quicker. Obviously the idea scares me though! I am going to add it to an Admin-only page and not show host to be extra cautious, but it would be cool if you could make it so that you have to enter a master (or the Admin/Host pw)) to be able to change user.

When users report a bug it is sometimes easier logging in as them and this would make life easier too... I'm just throwing up suggestions if anyone feels like doing some dev on CodePlex ;)

Why don't you modify it so that it requires you to be logged in as a Host user to be able to use the module?  It is not hard to add a check for User.IsSuperUser in the page load even and throw a permission denied if the user does not have the necessary priveleges.

Not a bad idea Joe - I'm gonna have to design something from scratch though as I have 40k+ users and the combobox chokes ;)

I'm thinking of a Profile token - Log in as this user - that only Host can see and it will be shown on profiles. Might be the quickest and simplest but security is a prime concern!

Did you try the version 2.0 beta of Identity Switcher? They added a filter control so you could search for a user, it wouldn't be too hard to optimize the control for a larger userbase... Let me know if you want any help, I'd be happy to help make some modifications to Identity Switcher
