Of course I did not click the upgrade framework button.  That would have been too easy.

The previous button under Host Settings was a bit mislabeled, and problematic to begin with. Most people thought it upgraded dotnetnuke, where it actually upgraded the asp.net framework from 2.x to 3.5 for the dotnetnuke instance. During the manual upgrade process for the asp.net framework, some bugs were introduced, which were never properly fixed in the recent builds. The 5.1 branch removed this button, and tries to handle the asp.net framework upgrade during the 5.1.0.773 upgrade process. Hopefully they'll nail the remaining bugs in the 5.1.1 release.

Either way, I'm glad I was able to help get your site back up and running again. Let me know if you have any other issues or problems.

I've been begging for more betas, a public SVN server, and a fixed gemini so we the community can watch/test/and report errors/bugs without wasting countless hours of our time testing old bugs on stale releases. I've been told it's coming, it's just not coming quick enough...

Yes, I had clicked the button to upgrade.

Your workaround to extract the System.Web.Extensions.dll did the trick.  Thank you so much for your insight!

Oliver,

Of course I did not click the upgrade framework button.  That would have been too easy.  I downloaded the upgrade package, copied it over and tried installing it.

There is no system.web.extensions.dll in the /bin directory of either the DNN install or the unzipped upgrade.

I have this problem also upgrade 05.01.00 -> 05.01.02...

I had system.web.extension in the /bin directory... upgrade done, but now, when I try to logon I receive:

"Login Failed, remember that Passwords are case sensitive"

but both username and password are correct!!!!
