Hi Guys,

I am trying to install DNN 4.9.4 as my internet hosted web site.

Spend a lot of time in communication but still have same and same dnn standard error message:

DotNetNuke Configuration Error

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

DotNetNuke has extensive file upload capabilities for content, modules, and skins. These features require custom security settings so that the application is able to create and remove files in your website.

Using Windows Explorer, browse to the root folder of the website ( C:\DotNetNuke by default ). Right-click the folder and select Sharing and Security from the popup menu ( please note that if you are using Windows XP you may need to
Disable Simple File Sharing before these options are displayed ). Select the Security tab. Add the appropriate User Account and set the Permissions.

  • If using Windows 2000 - IIS5
    1. the [SERVER]\ASPNET User Account must have Read, Write, and Change Control of the virtual root of your website.

  • If using Windows 2003 - IIS6
    1. the NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE User Account must have Read, Write, and Change Control of the virtual root of your website.

What I did:

1) In release file specified connection string to database;

2)Modifiy machineKey  section to make it look like: machineKey

decryption="3DES" validation="SHA1"

/>

3)Rename release.config to web.Config.

4)My hosting provider has console(web page), by using this console I have given permission to read, write end execute for the folder of DNN.

5)By using ftp I have upload all files form DotNetNuke_Community_04[1].09.04_Install package.

The result - I have this error message

decryptionKey="F9D1A2D3E1D3E2F7B3D9F90FF3965ABDAC304902F8D923AC"

  • on your web server create a web site or virtual directory
  • make sure, default.aspx is default document and asp.Net 2.0 enabled
  • grant full permission for the directory to ASP.Net user ("Network Service" by default)
  • do NOT touch web.config!
  • if you want to use connected database, create database and sql server user with db owner permission for the db
  • unzip install package of dotnetnuke into the web site directoy
  • do NOT touch web.config!
  • browse your site to start install wizard.
