Here is a correction to the Technical documentation link provided at the beginning of this thread.

Page 15 information is somewhat incorrect and appears to be VISTA or Win 7 screen shot.

In order to add Windows Authentication to IIS7 if it is missing preform the following:

Open up the Server Manager by right clicking computer from the start menu and choosing Manage. Expand Roles and Right click the Web Server (IIS), then choose Add Role Services. Scroll down a bit and check Windows Authentication under security.

I have submitted this information to marketing@dotnetnuke.com so that the documentation can be updated.

Thanks Doug. Yes it probably was done on a W7 system as I don't think I even had a 2008 Server up at home at the time. I'll look into updating it.

Mike,

I had to upgrade to 6.1.1 last week and it seems to have broken AD auth. I replaced the line needed in web.config and recycled the app pool. I even restarted the web server. I verified all setting as I had them working before the upgrade. Existing AD users can log in, probably because the object already exists in DNN's user table, but new users cannot be automatically registered like it worked before. Can you help?

I saw a beta of your AD Auth provider posted but the doc does not reflect that it solves my specific problem, plus you call for a couple of commads to be run that I am not sure of yet so I hesitated to give it a try. Please advise.

What version did you upgrade from? This is a known issue that's a result from a bug in the core code and is fixed for version 6.1.2. Please note that this only happens on manual logins. They should still be able to hit WindowsSignin.aspx from within your network and get logged in.

As far of running the commands in the beta... that's only necessary if you want to run under the integrated pipeline mode. If you want to keep running it in classic pipeline mode you don't need to run the commands.

I am on 6.01.01 and I came from 6.00.02 which was already a botched upgrade from 6.00.01. I went to 6.01.01 to overcome the previous upgrade problems. I think I solved my AD auth issue. Even though I made the changes, recycled the app pool ad even restarted IIS, it would seem that I needed to give the system more time to make this work again. I have one more test to perform later with a new hire to verify that I did fix this but I am confident I will be OK.

Thanks for the quick response.

Mike
