Michael,
thanks. I was considering that sort of thing but wasn't sure how it would work when basically developing in place as opposed to developing and then importing the new modules. Is it possible to then save these and export / import them as modules into other DNN instances?

I am making the assumption that I do need to learn at least one programming language....... please correct if I am wrong.

Assuming you're working with DNN, you're wrong.  You never need to do any programming with DNN, unless you want to or can't find a module you need.

Jeff,
thanks for your reply but my original post said:

Yes, with Enterprise forms and many other DNN modules you are able to create module and its functionality, and then export and import to a different system.

When there are no pertinent differences between the development and production systems it is quite straightforward.

If you start doing a lot of complex things such as wiring up to external datastores, etc, it is less likely that you can do a straight export/import without some modification after redeploying to production.

I don't see Enterprise forms or XMod or the like as a complete replacement scenario for custom programming of modules, but they are a rapid development environment for sundry and varied solutions. Sometimes rolling your own is actually easier. When I hit the limits of EF and have to get too creative to reach my goal, then I evaluate whether I can do a more solid and simpler custom module myself.

That said, I do lots in Enterprise forms ... a LOT of the time I am doing something in DNN it is also in EF ...

there are some great tutorials on asp.net and elsewhere for learning.

But I would give a thumbs up to LearnVisualStudio.NET. Very good videos.
