My company uses DotNetNuke to host our website. I believe we are using version 3.12. We recently encoutered problems while exporting templates.

There is one portal that returns an error when we try to export it. The error is as follows:
Error: Export Template is currently unavailable.
DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. ---> System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at DotNetNuke.Modules.Admin.PortalManagement.Template.SerializeTabs(XmlDocument xmlTemplate, XmlNode nodeTabs, PortalInfo objportal, Hashtable hRoles) at DotNetNuke.Modules.Admin.PortalManagement.Template.cmdExport_Click(Object sender, EventArgs e) --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

For the other portals, dnn will return the message saying the template is exported to the portal/_default location. However, when we check the template, the resource file are only 1 - 2 k in size. None of the images that are used in the original portal were actually exported.

We have used this features before. It went smoothly we did it a few months back. I can't think of anything that we changed since then.

Is anyone able to fix this problem before? We really need to get this back and running again.

Thanks
Derek

Hi Derek,

I am getting exactly the same problem. Did you ever resolve this problem? If so, could you tell me how please?

Thanks

Trev

Hi Trev,

unfortuantly, we haven't figured it out yet. I am still hoping someone has the solution.

It's likely to be something particular to your content, so is difficult for us to recreate it. I'd recommend that you copy your .template file, and rename it with an xml extension. Next, doubleclick it and open it in Internet explorer. Scroll down, and if theres a problem with the xml, it will hopefully give you an idea where it happens i.e. you'll see a message such as

The XML page cannot be displayed

Cannot view XML input using XSL style sheet. Please correct the error and then click the Refresh button, or try again later.

Hi Cathal,

Thanks a lot for the response.

The problem with my portal is that it does not create the template file at all. It simply returns the error message I pasted in the original post.
