You could always just edit the event description  and add a link to the appropriate photo album.

I have seen core DNN modules try to integrate with other core modules, and this hasn't always worked well. Equally, I would imagine the majority of people do not use the core gallery (or event module), so this would only fit with a limited number of people.

Of course there may be other ways of doing this
