I wish to store user passwords in my DNN database unencrypted.

I appreciate I can do this when adding users directly to the database by using a Passwordformat value of 0, but how do I configure my protals such that users added or passwords changed through the portal also use a Passwordformat of 0? (do I just need to hack the add-user stored proc?)

Many thanks

Jerry

Note: doing this is not advised as if a hacker gains access to your database (either physically or via sql injection), passwords in cleartext are a big bonus over the default which is to store encrypted with a SALT.

However, to store passwords in clear text, you can edit your web.config and set passwordformat to Clear

Simple as that! Thanks.

Don’t suppose you have a magic wand that would change the Password format for users already created from 2 to 0 on their next password change?

Many thanks for your help.

im afraid not. I'd suggest looking into creating your own authentication provider - you could then capture the users password, detect if that user is using clear or encrypted passwords, and update it accordingly .
