Hi all,

I'm new to DNN and wanted to create a skin for a site I am developing. I downloaded and built the source project and as such did not run the wizard. I believe that as a result I do not have a 'host' account created.

Is not having a host account a major problem? The skin tutorials I have found say that I have to 'parse' the skin but can only do so when logged in as the host.

So to summarize:
How do I create my own skin?
Do I need a host account?

Can anyone help me out or point me to any tutorials?

Many thanks,

Pete

You need a host account.  Use the install version, not the source.

Download the skinning documentation.  Actually, the entire documentation download, since you would have found not to install the source if you had read it.

I agree with Jeff.  Take a look at the documentation first if you are new to the framework.

I can give a tip though - If you're new to skinning, take a look and study the MinimalExtropy skin that comes default with the installation.  You'll get a good sense of the structure of skins and containers.  Also download and read Timo's list of DNN Skin Objects, here.  This will prove useful once you get into it.

Cheers for the pointers guys - I'll get the install version and go throught the wizard. At least I'm not going crazy!

I tried looking at the documentation - in particular the 'DotNetNuke Skinning Guide' .pdf but it was published in 2006 and I think it's a bit out of date for the latest versions (I believe the folder structures are different)
