I'm planning to develop a new intranet portal. I've downloaded the source code version and able to run the solution and view the portal. However i'm not sure how to start development of a new portal in DNN? What are the basic activities i should do? Please  direct me to the thread if there is one already.

  1. I don't want the default portal. I want a new parent portal. How can i delete the default and create a new parent portal?
  2. If i cannot delete the default, can i have another parent portal ?
  3. Will the default portal template provide all features necessary ?
  4. If i download a skin, how do i customize it - replace logos, color, font etc?

  • are you looking for a new DNN installation or a new site inside the same installation?
  • for a new installation, you need to start with an initial site
  • for a new site, you need to use a portal template with at least a home page (which can be empty).
  • for skinning, please review the skinning guide (available from resources > documentation > downoadable files in menu above).

Sorry to hijack. When Adding a portal in 5.1.1 I go to the portal area after clicking on host but cannot see the 'Add portal' button refered to in the help. I would like to add a new parent portal for similar reasons to Sebastian
