Our forum module no longer sends any users notifications when someone responds to their question (we tried it with several type of dummy accounts - nothing even went to SPAM). In addition, we're not getting e-mails whenever someone makes a purchase in our store. I'm not quite sure what the problem is - it sort of "just happened" one day - no one is fessing up to making any changes.

I am pretty sure this isn't a forum specific issue (since it is a problem in a store w/ emails too). Login as host, go to Host -> Host Settings and expand the SMTP section and make sure the email is going out from there. This sounds like an SMTP issue and not a module one (the forum uses the core SMTP settings).
