Hi,

On my hosted sites with PowerDNN, I've added portal aliases dozens of times and it always works.  My client is hosting their site on their own server.

For the sake of arguement, the url is http://abc.com - the original URL is working just fine

Now, they have added a few now domains:

http://abccompany.com

http://abcorganization.com

I have added the two new domains in the portalalias table (i.e. "abccompany.com" and "abcorganization.com") - however when trying to access the site using the new url's - it comes up with the Service Unavailable message.

This must have something to do with their server/IIS configuration - which I am not an expert in.  What other steps do they have to take so that the site can be accessed by all three url's?

Thanks, Al

If you tracert to the new domains, do they resolve to the correct IP Address?

From a CMD window on a desktop computer:
c:\ > tracert abccompany.com

You should get a list of "hops" that will end at the webserver.

I did ping the three url's - and all three resolved to the same IP address (although the pings timed-out for each of the URL's).

The tracert stopped after 30 hops and did not connect to any of the threeu URL's.

The original url http://abc.com is still working for browsing the site - the other two (i.e. the two new records added to the PortalAlias table) generate the Service Unavailable message.

I did a tracert on my url:  sunsethill.ca - and it did succeed on hop 17...

Hmmm, so if all three domain urls are resolving to the same IP address - and all three are in the PortalAlias table, does this mean it must have something to do with the IIS configuration for this website on the server?

Are you using host headers?  Make sure they're correct.  And double check the portal aliases, that they are the same as the resolved name, with or without "www", etc.
