The privacy statement part of my home page is coming up on Google instead of my company name.  I have managed to change it so that when you click on the link it goes to my home page (previously all it was showing was the privacy page) but cannot seem to get my business name to show on the search.

I am new to all this and struggling!

Can anyone help?

When you logged into your Google webmasters account and checked the settings for indexing, what did it show?

Thank you Jeff - I have added Google Webmaster, verified, and the following message came up:-

Googlebot has successfully accessed your home page.
Pages from your site are included in Google's index.

I then did an index check with no crawl errors.

The webpage came up on google search but with the privacy statement at the top.

Is this what you meant?

I have learnt something already - thank you!

since the privacy statement appears at the bottom of each page, Google will index it for each page.

Add excludes for your robot.txt file.  You can get the excludes for this site at (www.dotnetnuke.com/robots.txt).  you will see that the robots.txt file has a line:

Disallow: /*/ctl/

if you go to your (or any dnn site) and click on Privacy or Terms, the URL includes the 'ctl'.  By including that (and other) disallow statements, you will tell the search engine not to index those pages.

As far as getting your Home page indexed, you are on the right start using Google's webmaster tools, but even submitting your sitemap will not guarantee success. just make sure that your page names, description meta-tags and page content are all completed and relevant.  Do not just use the site tags in the site settings.  Every page will have the same header information and Google will penalize you for it. There are other tools out there that can help, but you should be able to at least get your site fully indexed.
