As I stated in my origonal post the issue was when using standard DNN menu and 5.1.1 (I have left the 4.x era)

I tested som other too and the z-index (?)  problem was not visible however other "problems" showed up.

For example this nice skin http://skinsbyadammer.com/Greytness.aspx

makes the forum menu to render at random.

Maybe its a good idea to make some changes in the js for the forum menu.

The issue is related to the 3rd party skin, not to the forum module. As a sample, if a skin inclided a js fix for png files, this fix goes in confict with the forum png fix.  The Skin should hold on the DNN Menu.

OK, If I understand you right the core dnn nav menu and all other skin should adopt to the forum module.

Its a rather odd point of view. Is this the core team and corperation view too?

If so I 'll bee very suprised.

No you miss understand me.

the Forum Module uses the dnn menu and dnn controls.  If the site menu on a 3rd parity have any view issue with the forum on using any methodes, that is not supported by the DNN Menu is not a issue from the forum module.  It is go a while before I read the DNNMenu instructions, but didn't remember that there was the index-z methode was included.  I know there are some restriction with in the DNNMenu.

All skins have to adopt to the DNN Core controls and methodes.  Some skins included it's own controls and overwrite the DNN Controls for it features.  Specically to the png fix of the forum  module, the DNN core haven't this fix included, so it must be integrrated to the module to support the png files.

I don't think Matthias was referencing the core skin, and instead was referencing the third party skin you showed as a link. I am not sure what you are trying to accomplish here, but if your trying to simply notify me of a conflict I have taken note.

What I can say, there is likely many things w/ the default theme that people may come across as a conflict. I hope that they notify the team (like you have done) and make the changes they need. I am fairly certain that most people don't use the module in production w/ the core skins and thus I expect to get feedback about conflicts because I KNOW the module isn't going to be compatible with every skin out there. I have tested the module in various core skins, third party skins but may have not done things using the same configuration as others (for example, I never use the png javascript).  The responsibility of the team will be to take that feedback and take it into consideration in a future version (which I will do).
