We've been building a DNN 5.1.0 website and we've had no issues with its configuration until today. Suddenly the website will not come up and we get a very strange error that we've never seen before. The weirdest thing is that it's complaining about /App_Browsers/OceanAppleWebKit.browser. We tried putting a new copy of that file into the site, but that did nothing. We restored the SQL DB from yesterday when the site was working - no effect.  What the hooper is going on here?

Can you try removing the file or renaming the .browser extension for the moment?
If this gets you somewhere I recommend upgrading to 5.1.1
Thanks...

When I removed ALL of the .BROWSER files from the directory APP_BROWSERS, I was able to get the site to come up.  I immediately backed up everything and upgraded to 5.1.1. The upgrade was successful but the website still will not work if ANY .BROWSER files exist in that folder. I even made sure to copy the files from new, clean 5.1.1. installation. No effect - still fails. Very strange.

I don't know what the implications are for not having those .BROWSER files, but the site appears to run without them.

I'm having this same exact issue. Are those browser files essential?

I just had this problem except my installation is 4.9.1   Site was running fine for weeks, then all of a sudden out of the blue it comes up with that error at the top of this thread.   I read the thread and deleted all the .browser files from that dir and now my site is back.

WHY??????  (please)
