I'm beginning to make plans to upgrade a 4.9.4 site to 5.1.1.  The site is using AD Authentication

What should I know/do regarding the upgrade?

It's my understanding the the AD Authentication Provider must be upgraded, so if I upgrade the site, I'm guessing that AD authentication will fail.  So, would this be the approach:

  1. Disable AD
  2. Perform the Upgrade
  3. Reinstall and configure AD Authentication

That sounds about right Joseph. I need to do the same thing and that's the process I'm going to be following. If it's at all possible I'd try to do the upgrade on a backup install first to make sure it goes smoothly.

We have an experimental site that is close to the live site.  I was planning to backup the experimental site and trying the upgrade there first.  Depending on my energy/enthusiasm level, I may wait until next week to try this.  So, if you do it first, please post any gotchas!  <g>
