This error is due to an IIS configuration issue with ASP.NET.

Open a command line window.

Change to the C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727 folder

Then run the following two commands

aspnet_regiis.exe -u

aspnet_regiis.exe -i

rex,

To quickly add to Mitchel's reply - generally when I see this error it is because IIS was installed/configured AFTER ASP.NET was installed - so the re-registering steps above are just the trick needed to get things back in order and IIS & ASP.NET playing nicely with each other again.

Take care,

Ian

Hey Rex,

The next step for you will probably be to make sure all of the proper IIS stuff is installed. Here is a blog post that talks about it: http://www.snowball.be/DNN+And+IIS7+How+To+Get+It+To+Work.aspx. And here is another one: http://weblogs.asp.net/christoc/archive/2007/01/04/dnn-daily-tip-debugging-dotnetnuke-development-on-windows-vista-and-visual-studio-2005.aspx.

Also, I would download DNN 5.1.1 from codeplex.com: http://dotnetnuke.codeplex.com/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ReleaseId=30778

Hope that helps,

Ian
