Here are a couple of links that will help you get started with editing the Template files:

 http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/6db0hwky(VS.80).aspx
http://www.thecodinghumanist.com/Content/HowToEditVSTemplates.aspx

Essentially, the template is just a collection of  normal VS project files with tokens in them. Then there is a .vstemplate file that instructs VS on how to replace those tokens when you create a new project from it. So at the very least, you'll just need to do some copying and renaming.

Ian,
thanks. I know this...
But I have no time and prority to dig into template editing.

I thought that it was of common sense and interest to all to have it done in releases.

BTW, how can I determine the version of installed templates looking into the zip files installed?

To rename the template, you have to open it and edit it.  VSTemplate, TemplateData, Name is the tag whose text should be changed in the *.vstemplate xml file.  That is the quickest way.  You would then need to rezip everything with a new name for the zip file.

I agree completely with you on this, but that is not the way the templates were/are created.

I don't think you can.  I had the same confusion when moving from a 4.x to a 5.x template--I didn't even know which was which and if there was a difference.  To handle this, again, you could edit the VS Template and add the version to the Name.  I don't see a way to currently get what you want without editing the templates yourself, unfortunately.
