Hi all,

We use DNN as a platform for web products we develop. We like to have "release versions" of our products therefore are trying to identify the best way to manage the version of the platform we currently have in the market.

Is there an off-the-shelf solution that anyone knows about to help manage the version of a DNN site and modules within it?

Cheers.

Brenden

Brenden,

I am not 100% sure what you are looking for here.  On a module-by-module basis you can keep installation packages to version those, and the core itself is versioned effectivly via the way it is released.

If you want to setup a "base site" and version that, the best bet is just to take a full backup of the database and DNN site files, and manage that locally.  Since a good portion of DNN functionality, configuration, and data is stored in the database, standard source control tools will not necessarily allow for comparison, but can be used to store the various base versions.

If this doesn't answer your question can you explain in a bit more detail what you are looking for?  (Feel free to e-mail me at msellers@iowacomputergurus.com, as due to the number of posts here, I don't always make it back to threads...)

Hi,

I too am looking for a tool/module that well help me keep track of module versions across many portals.  I haven't found anything yet to do that, but I was thinking that I would have to build it my self...I would build a base portal with the most current modules I have installed, then run a SQL report to compare that database with my other portals database to compare module versions.

So if anyone has any pointers on this, it would be most appreciated.

Jerry
