Hi all,

I'm having trouble locating information on how to create skin objects (for DNN 5.1.1). Anyone know of any really good tutorials. I have both the DotNetNuke Skinning and Design and Professional DotNetNuke 5, but neither actually go into how to build a skin object only what they are and how to use the default skin objects that come with DNN.

Further, where do I put custom skin objects? In the skin folder?

So, for example, I'd like to override the "nav" skin object. I'm rendering the navigation as an unordered list and notice that every LI has an inline style. I'd really like to remove it. Actually, now that I'm peaking at Nav.ascx.vb, I don't see any code doing that. Is there another file I should be looking at?

thanks in advance

John,

Still looking for help with this stuff? Making a skinobject is much like making a custom module. However, if you are looking at customizing the Nav skinobject, that's actually a bit different, because that skinobject can load menu systems implemented through the navigation provider.

HouseMenu 2 is something like what you describe, and you can get it for free from House of Nuke.

Otherwise, I discovered several good resources (not necessarily for skinobjects, though) when working on HouseMenu. If you still need some places to look, I can dig up some sites for you.

Tim

Hi Tim

I know its kinda unrelated, but I thought I'd grab you soon as I saw your name...

Would you mind taking a look at this thread on House Menu entitled "House Menu - Once and for all..." that I started. I also created the thread "DNN Nav Menu - Once and for all... ", and both have similar intent - to keep a single point for all House Menu related questions and answers in one place.  It would be awesome if you could contribute, however small to the cause.

I'm no newbie to DNN or CSS, but the idea is to get users to post working CSS (and in the case of Nav, HTML) examples of how to do things - for others to use and learn from.

Hope to hear from you.

Thanks
Jon Edwards
