I'm having a really unusual problem on new site.  I created it as a child portal and created all the content without any problem.  I then pointed the real URL to the acutal site and then the problems began.  The problem occurs when I go to site www.rbownerstoday.com, but use url rbownerstoday.com.  Note that the "WWW" is missing in the second url.  When I go to rbownerstoday.com and click on either login or registration, we get the expception below.  This occurs with login in the default configuration for login and with a seperate Login Page.

Does anyone know what is wrong?

I got the same error over and over again after upgrading to DNN 5.1.1

I cleared my cache on ALL browsers (chrome, firefox, IE) and restarted my computer... and it worked.   Not sure if this will work  the  same  for your child portal but  worth  a shot...

I found a way to make my problem go away, but I'm not sure it was a fix.

Initially, I created this portal as child portal.  So it was at www.abc.com/rb.  I then added the portal alias rbownerstoday.com which is the real portal URL.

I then (using MS SQL Manager), manually deleted the child portal alias from the portals alias list.   Now the problem has gone away.  Don't have a clue as to why this fixed it.   Note, I had to use MS SQL Manager to delete the child portal alias because DNN will not let you delete the child portal alias that the portal was created with.

The problem is you wanted a parent portal, not a child portal.
