I am not entirely sure this is the right forum for this post but it does seem to be a skin problem.

I have noticed with all new portals I create with DNN 5 the page never gives the "Done" message when loading unless you mouse over the menu, scroll the page or click somewhere on the page i.e. the loading status always says "1 item remaining". This seems only to affect IE as far as I can see. Is this unique to my installation or do others have this same issue?

Marcus

It would help if you posted a link to your site so that we can see what you're seeing.  This will eliminate a whole lot of guess-work.

Also, we would need to know the following:

  • What version of DNN (you say 5, but what 5? 5.0, 5.1..?)
  • What Menu Provider does your skin use..? (DNNNav, or 3rd aprty like Snapsys, DNN360, HouseMenu..?)
  • If DNNNav? Have you set any custom parameters..? Like RenderMode?
  • Does the site have any custom javascripts or flash running in it..? (the first thing that came to mind when I read this is that a component or script hasn't loaded correctly or is taking a long time to load, or has an "onpageload" command)

Again, a working example would be best.

Hi Jon,

Sorry, this may help.

It is version 05.01.01 using the default skin and menu provider.

There has been no customisation other than to add a logo.

http://aapdb.netmaintain.net will find the example.

I was thinking the same thing with regard to a component or script not loading.

One thing I have encountered with a similar issue, and I have no rock-hard "this is what caused it" ... simply a "I corrected this and everything played happy afterwards"...

I had added a tracker script to the default.ascx file, and there was a stray line return in there, when I loaded the page it was stuck forever on the last item. After looking through my change notes, and noticing a bit of odd formatting in the script I corrected it and PoOf... the problem went away. Now, I'm fairly certain that scripts aren't as sensitive to linebreaks as, say a missing closing brace but this certainly stopped the bug. Simply - you may want to check any scripts you may have added that could be hanging the browser. Depending on what they do, you should be able to comment / cut them out until you find the offending script. Then again, if you haven't added any script, flash, or items like that... well I'm not sure.

Good luck with it though!

The fiddler plugin for IE is pretty handy for looking at these issues.
