I'm just a couple of partial days into DotNetNuke, and I confess that I haven't found definitive docs that work for me.  Tried to order some manuals, and the people I am working with are dragging their heels.

I am just coming over to this Module from the Documents module.

My apologies for the probable stupid questions, but I don't know where else to go at this point:

1. Can't I set up the module to not need Moderation of docs?

2. Can't I search the contents of the uploaded document?   People want to be able to upload a .DOC file, and then be able to search the contents.   Does this module handle that?   If not, is there one that does?

Thank you.

1. In the module settings, check 'All Users' for the Moderation role.  Uploads by a moderator do not require moderation.  Or you might want to just check off 'Registered Users' to avoid anonymous uploads unless you want to allow anonymous uploads :)  Also, if you're going to turn Moderation off, I would suggest removing the [MODERATEBUTTON] token from the header.html file in the template you are using.

2. No, the Repository module uses the default core search API which only searches the module data, not document contents.  I don't believe there is any core module that would do that, you will have to check out 3rd party document modules for that functionality.

If your docs are publicly available (i.e., users do not need to login to view the documents module / links) then Google search will parse and return results from your uploaded .DOC, .TXT and .PDF files.  Although it would be clunky to have yet another search box on your documents page, you *could* use a Text/HTML module to drop a Google search box near the module with a label like "Search inside documents".  If you used Google AJAX search then you could return results on the same page without a page refresh (see a working example of file content search in DNN here: http://googleAJAXsearch.com).  The trick will be to determine and apply the needed Google search filter so only your documents are searched rather than your whole site or all the web.

If you use the Repository module you will probably need to enable the "direct links" option in order for Google to index the files' contents.

Cheers!
