I just upgraded from AD ver 1.0.4 and installed AD ver 1.0.6 and started to test it out.   There seems to an issue with Forgot password and the way AD stores the password from Active Directory (ACD-4158 Active Directory - Storing of AD passwords).   Since the in database only dummy/temporary password are stored, when I use forgot password, I end up getting the dummy password emailed to me.  This does not seem to make sense.  Am I missing something, there is any workaround?

Thanks for help!

It does make sense in a security sense and the reason why the storage of passwords was changed. If you're logging into the system with the same password you're using to log into the computer with then there's no reason why you would need to get a password reminder is there?

However, under the old system, if you're logged into your computer at work and happen to step away from your desk without locking the desktop. Bob is a malicious sort and has he walks by he hits the password reminder, opens your email and now has your password and full access to all your info. Big security risk.

Hello Mike

I have several sites which are in mixed mode and therefore the login to the site and the computer is not the same.  There a number of situations when the users forget the password and need to retreive their password.  The forgot password feature is being very much used.  When I upgrade to the latest version of AD (1.00.6 or 5.02), the forgot password sends the temporary password in email.  Is there a way the user can get into the site using that password and then be prompted to changed the password immediately - or - is there a way that the actual password can be retreived using this temporary password?

Thanks for help!

If they have retrieved the dummy password they can login to the site still using the Standard DNN login (I think as I haven't tried it). They'll have to enter their credentials as Domain\Username and then the dummy password. That will get them into the site but they won't be authenticated against the Active Directory, just against DNN.

I guess I could make the password storage optional in the settings if enough want the option. Can you add it to the Issue Tracker on http://dnnauthad.codeplex.com?
