Ok. After x4 attempts to install DNN 5.1.1 on my web server, 2k3 standard and sql 2k5 express, I have learned alot, AND I am using Helm, now Parallels latest Control Panel BUT, before I do the next attempt. (I do want to learn DNN preferable to Joomla/WP/Drupal) but... I did learn to NOT put the DNN511 folder in the root domain folder. I had to delete the folder to clear out the failed app pool, meaning backing up the email accounts, deleting the folder, (and the working domain and email accounts) then I reinstalled the working domain and email accounts and the failed app pool was now gone.
I use Helm Control Panel, to Create my SQL database, with a user name/password to the Applied database for the website domain.
at first attempt I had my dedicated server setup by someone who knows, but he couldn't get it to work. So time for me to learn: At first I got an installation error during new install, but it could see the database, and right before finish it gave me error code 412 (I think.) now during next intall attempts I am getting a can't connect to database. I noticed the APP Pool , and have to ask, is that installed when I attempted the New Install DNN 5.1.1? Or am I supposed to put in the App Pool first? Using the domain's own app pool, not the general defualt app pool? so basically, what I don't know is: Does DNN isntall the app pool? No, it would have to be assigned and created before. (thinking out loud) so I will need to test this too, and accordign to the notes, it has to have Full or Write permisions. I will have to look up the docs on latest version of Helm/Parallel, and Windows Dedicated Server access (which I have...)
1. Where can I find instructions on how to test the sql database is working before I intall DNN? ON a running 2003 Standard Dedicated Web Server...
2. Can I test the Application Pool too? Any links on how: to setup beforehand, and not make part of the Default App Pool?
3. Does the App pool in the Domain wwwroot need to have Network Service Only with full or write priveleges? or All Users Accounts need Write or Full Permision.
4. Any other notes that will get the new install of the latest DNN 5.1.1 to work.
I hope it is easier to use than to install... but time will tell. I write these notes, because I would expext the answers will help many in the same situation as me, and benefit the DNN community, of which I am a new member, but looking forward to a long, happy relationship.
