I am trying to change the default font in the skin. When i look in the skin.css file I could only find one are where there is something about font at all. I changed it but it only made the text change when my cursor hovered over text. Can anyone help??

This depends on what skin you are using.

go to  /Portals/_default and open default.css in the editor.

from default.css copy to your skin.css the classes :
.Normal, .NormalDisabled
.NormalDisabled
.NormalBold
.NormalRed
.NormalTextBox
and change the properties to the desired design.

You may add other classes from the default.css as you wish.

Is this settings teh default one for all skin types...???
