In researching skin packs, I'm seeing that most of the ones I have liked so far appear to be using the SOLPARTMENU instead of the NAV one.  Should this be a concern?  Isn't NAV the most recent and recommended one?  Will using the SOLPARTMENU be a problem in future releases of DNN?  Thanks, Joan

For problems in future release I cannot say for sure.  However, the newer menu components of both the core and some third-party are a much better option, as they render the menu in a much better fashion than some of the older components, including the SOLPARTMENU

I know some skin vendors will not like me for this, but I  would not buy a skin that uses Solpart.
There is a good chance it will not work in IE 8 and it can never be an XHTML compliant  skin.
The new menu is much cleaner and more compliant.

I agre that Solpart is pase but if you look at DNN 4.9.4 it still use webcontrol 1.5.3  and this make the nav and DNNMenuprovider rather bad alternative as it does not work in IE 8. This was shown on this site as a bad example a couple of months.

Skins for DNN 5.x should use the "NAV" menu instead of old solpart. BUt for rel 4 its not a alternativ.

True Jan, but I have seen issues with Solpart and IE8 too, if the Skin uses an XHTML doctype.

If you have a problem with your skin and IE8, you could add the IE compatibility mode skin object to the skin.

You can download it here: http://dnnskinobjects.codeplex.com/

It forces the skin to be rendered as it used to in IE7 (or you can force the skin to be rendered in IE8 strict mode)

IMO it's better to fix the skin, but that can be quite difficult / time consuming for some users / skins...
