Hi all,

I have searched relentlessly for an answer to this problem for the last day and a half, and any and all help would be greatly appreciated. I am attempting to install DNN 5 onto my Windows Vista Machine with IIS 7.

I am using built-in authentication via the DefaultAppPool with Identity 'NetworkService'. When I try to set up my application and click 'Test Settings', the 'Authentication' has a green checkmark next to it, but the 'Authorization' line has warning sign next to it saying it cannot verify access to path. The details tab below this says:

The server is configured to use pass-through authentication with a built-in account to access the specified physical path. However, IIS Manager cannot verify whether the built-in account has access. Make sure that the application pool identity has Read access to the physical path. If this server is joined to a domain, and the application pool identity is NetworkService or LocalSystem, verify that <domain>\<computer_name>$ has Read access to the physical path. Then test these settings again.

I have set the NETWORK SERVICE user on my application folder to 'Full Control', and when i try to load http://localhost/MySite, I get the following error

Module IIS Web Core
Notification BeginRequest

Error Code 0x80070021
Config Error This configuration section cannot be used at this path. This happens when the section is locked at a parent level. Locking is either by default (overrideModeDefault="Deny"), or set explicitly by a location tag with overrideMode="Deny" or the legacy allowOverride="false".

Requested URL http://localhost:80/DotNetNuke

Links and More Information This error occurs when there is a problem reading the configuration file for the Web server or Web application. In some cases, the event logs may contain more information about what caused this error.

OK, I found a solution!

For me at least, DNN had to be installed as an application under a website. I used default website. I havent dug any deeper and found the reason for this yet, but it seems that DNN does not function in a root website...

regards

Ian
