, when I try to install on shastawebdevelopment.com in a subdirectory (SWD), I have strange problems. No errors, just the install screens are blank. I get the normal install screen to start, and then as I progress to the file permission screen it's blank (but seems to work), then I click next to go to the Database script page which is also blank. It should show fields to add my database connection info.

You can go to http://www.shastawebdevelopment.com/SWD/ to see the problem.

This first install page is normal.

The file permission screen should have text on it but doesn’t. However the permission check seems to work.

Then after clicking Next it goes to the Database scripting installer page but the page is blank and I cannot enter my database connection info. That's as far as I get.

Any ideas?

I would validate that all files successfully copied to the location, then try to start the wizard again.

Tried this already. I extracted the install files to a new directory but get the same issue. I guess I could try to download the zip package again, extract again and upload again... But i did this twice already in different directories and still the same issue.

So just to test i tried installing DNN 5 onto a subdirectory of my localhost .  I found the exact same problem of the blank pages. Seems to only happen when installing to a subdir... I'm suprised no one else has run into this problem. I've only been able to get DNN 5 installed on the root.

Well. I think I figured out the problem. You cannot install DNN in a subdirectory of another .NET site. For example, lets say you have a site running in a folder called wwwroot. You then create a subdir called DNN within that site. Then you create the virtual application directory pointed to the DNN directory. You will be able to see the first install screen but you won't see the database connection info fields when you get to that stage. The only way to install is to do this in the root folder (which will destroy any other site running in the root). Or you can install in a subdir as long as there is NO site running at the root...

So, if you delete everything from wwwroot in our example and then try to install DotNetNuke to the wwwroot/DNN dir it will work.

So I'm kinda screwed becasue I already have site running in the root of my host. I'd have to delete it and move it to a subdir to get DNN installed. However, that means I'd have to run my root site in a subdir - not sure i can do this without major code changes. It was a pain to figure this out because there is no documentation regarding this issue and DNN gives no error message on install, it just doesn't show you the database connection fields so you can never get past that point. Too bad. Was really hoping this would work.
