I've now upgraded my production site and you can see the behavior on almost any page:

www.oaklandsymphonychorus.org

I'm going to begin immediately planning the upgrade to 4.9.4, in hopes that will fix this.

I took a look at your CSS and you still don't have

.DNNEmptyPane{width:0;padding:0;margin:0;}

in either portal.css or skin.css

(if you add it to skin.css, add it at the bottom)

<p>I added the definition at the end of skin.css and refreshed the test web site - had zero effect.&#160; I even logged in as host and restarted the application.&#160; No effect. It's clear from the page source that it expects to <em>have</em> a class .DNNEmptyPane - it's referenced all over.&#160; But putting it in either skin.css or portal.css doesn't seem to help.&#160; I pulled my test site up in FireFox where I have the developer plugin - I find a .DNNEmptyPane class in the module.css for the Announcements module, also in the .css below:</p> <p>/Portals/_default/default.css and also in the /Portals/_default/Skins/DNN-Gray/skin.css.&#160; The form of this statement is:</p> <pre> .DNNEmptyPane { width: 0px; } </pre> <p>but it seems to have no effect.&#160; It isn't at the end of skin.css.&#160; I added your statement to the end of skin.css with no effect on the display.</p> <p>At this point I plan to upgrade to 4.9.4 and hope it works there.</p>

I think I found the issue.

The Table containing the panes has 3 rows, one with the actual panes and one below it.

The left TD of the lower TR has a spacer  image with width:150 in it, that's why the column does collapse I think.

Thanks again for your expert advice!  Believe me, one major objective of this entire upgrade process is to get to the point where we can apply a better, more modern looking skin!  My ultimate goal is DNN 5 but I want it to settle at 4.9.4 for awhile before I try that!

Um, exactly where do I find the table that has this spacer.gif referenced?  Can I do that from the GUI or do I have to dig into files?  I can't even find a file called spacer.gif on my site.
