i dunno....maybe it's just me......

i remember way back in the days of  "I Buy Spy" everything was soooo straight forward......

if you wanted to display some HTML you'd pick the HTML module and it would give you a text box where you'd enter your HTML

or......if you wanted to do some "Links" you'd pick the "Links" module and it would prompt you for the URLs....

etc...etc....

why oh why is everything in DotNetNuke sooooo difficult to use?

for example.....tonight, i simply wanted to display a jpg file. so.....what to use? hmmmm...let's try the HTML/Text module.....NOWHERE does it let you enter ANY HTML .....

ok......how about a LINK module......NOWHERE does it prompt for a URL! - no way to make a link!

ok......how about the "media" module?

it prompts for a file from the root directory. my jpg sits right in the root of my site......but it doesn't "see" it......

why oh why is everything so difficult in DNN?

I Buy Spy was the pinnacle i guess....it's been all downhill from there

btw.....i have yet to see ANYONE get the media module to work.

sheesh

james,

Lots has changed since the times of ibuyspy. However, it should all work for you:

  • Text Html module uses the FCK editor by default. In FCK you have an option to switch to code view, which allows you to tinker with html
  • Links module works pretty straight forward. Add the module to a page, click on the option to add a new link and you should see an edit view which allows you to enter links details.
  • Media module should look at files that are placed in the portals home dir and down. This is not the same as the root dir of your site, but rather /portals/0/ (for the first portal)

James, are you in View mode? You need to switch to edit mode to alter content.
