Hi,

I am running Windows XP, IIS 5.1, SQL Express and DotNetNuke Community 04.09.04 Install.   I am following the installation video found on this site (training cert 1).  I have followed the steps to extract the files on to the machine, set the folder security permissions, created the SQL Server database with a user for dotnetnuke and created the IIS virtual folder.  When I visit the web address the site starts correctly and tries to run an installation wizard.  I have selected statndard installation and come to a screen to specifiy the connection to the database.  I am using SQL Express and have specified the path and I get an error when I press "next" or "test connection".  The error is "The given path's format is not supported"

The details are

Server .\SQLExpress

Filename C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data\dotnetnuke.mdf (the database is called dotnetnuke and the location was confirmed using copy/paste into windows explorer)

Any help would be appreciated.

As you have already created an empty database and database user/password, you will NOT be referring to it by means of a file path in your connection string. Instead, try the following where "dddddd" is the name of the database you created, "uuuuuu" is the username and "xxxxxxx" is the password:

connectionString="Data Source=.\SQLExpress;Initial Catalog=dddddd;User ID=uuuuuu;Password=xxxxxxx"

If you will be using a database management tool such as MS SQL Server Management Studio Express, it is much preferable to use a MS SQL 2000/2005/2008 connection string such as the above rather than one which references the mdf file.
