Does it make a difference if you reference the Default.aspx on the URL?  How about a simple Hello World HTML file in the root of your DNN site?  Have you made sure the IP doesn't point to another server (I know, a little too obvious...)?  Or that the virtual directory actually has your DNN installation?  Checked permissions on the files/folders and VD settings?

The reason the Directory Listing Denied message appears is that IIS has a setting to allow or disallow directory listings.  If a page is not specifically requested, as in when http://www.sample.com/ is the URL, then IIS will serve the default document.  If the default document doesn't exist (or IIS can't find it), and directory listing is not allowed, then IIS returns that message.  There's not much more to it.

Well I really can't say what exactly fixed it, but I did want to post what I did to finally get the site up. I started over from scratch, deleting everything from the system that had anything to do with DotNetNuke, including the database I created in SQL and the directions (including the virtual directory in IIS).

First, I followed the directions on our to set the required permissions on the server from this microsoft post: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/271071.

I then followed the instructions from this guide I found online exactly as they are written: http://www.dnncreative.com/tabid/289/Default.aspx?PageContentID=122 (note: I have no connection with this site or the person that wrote the guide, it's just the one that FINALLY worked for me.)

I appreciate all the info and attempts to help me Jeff. I basically put in about 40+ hours over the last week or so getting this installed, but I know that DNN is going to allow me to do everything I want to do with our site so it was worth it.

Take care,

Chris
