I downloaded the DNN starter kit (and also the source zip). I opened the website in VWD Express, and clicked "run" but get quite a few missing references.eg.

Name 'ProcessModuleLoadException' is not declared D:\DotNetNuke_starter\admin\Containers\LinkActions.ascx.vb    53

I can see from the source directory that this is part of the DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.Exceptions namespace, but its not imported in the vb file.

I also see a lot of errors in the release.config like:
Warning    10    The 'requirePermission' attribute is not declared.    D:\DotNetNuke_starter\release.config.

Anyone have any ideas? I couldnt find anything like this in the FAQ or install docs.

/Steve

Thanks.. this seems like the same issue. I renamed release.config to web.config (not sure if that made any difference) and recompiled the site a couple of times. The warnings are still there, and the first time I opened the default page, it was full of errors but after refreshing and navigating around a bit, the site seems to run fine.

I had this problem after using 4.0.3 and it was very annoying. I finally got so frustrated I just added the Imports statements myself. Annoying, but it fixed the problems. I'm sure they'll pop their ugly heads up again, tho, because I only fixed a handful before it decided to compile again. We'll see...
