Hi,

The site runs in webfarm mode on 4 replicated webservers using NTFS to replicate the web folder, all pointing at the same SQL Server 2008 database.

I have had to restore our site from a backup due to some files being deleted on the live site. Stppoed IIS on all 4 web servers,  deleted the old site and waited for the replication changes to delete from the other machines, restored the SQL DAtabase to previous backup date, copied zipped version of backup Website back into the Web Folder, waited for replication to complete, then started IIS on first machine, got the error listed below.  Started other 3 servers, same error...

Upon trying to go the the URL on the local webserver I now get the following error: http://www.credibledata.co.uk/Default.aspx?tabid=36&error=Object+reference+not+set+to+an+instance+of+an+object.&content=0

I cannot see any other error messages or logs.  I have attached a screenshot in case it helps.

I have searched the web but dont seem to be able to find an answer to this exact problem. Does anyone have any idea why a working site should fail to start from a restored copy on the same server?

Thank you in advance for any help you can give.

Mark

My first suspicion is the database.  Check the SQL logs to see if there are any errors there.

No errors in the sql logs.

I reverted the web.config file back to an old version and the site started working, so now got the fun task of comparing the two files to identify diferences and try to find the problem that stops the site loading, but at least the site is working for the moment.  Whilst it is working, albeit very slowly, I am going to try an upgrade to the latest version to see it it still runs, if not back to the back ups and sort the original issue first.

Thank you Jeff for your reply.  I will post an update if I find out the issue incase it helps anyone else.

Mark
