Hello,

A friend of mine was discussing using DNN as a framework for some RAD work on a project where the developers are mainly JQuery jockeys.

The suggestion was raised that we could create HTML modules and inject the JQuery work into them, and have them pull all of their app-specific data via JSON.

The question I had was to do with security and authentication. It seemed to me that if we could access both the session ID and the user id from DNN and pass those along to the service, we would have a solid sense that the user was the proper user for the JSON request.

The question I have is this: do you have access to the userid token and session ID from within JQuery when you're running in a DNN module?

As a follow-on, if you wanted to use JQuery accessing data via web services over JSON inside DNN modules as your approach, are there any best practices or experienced developers out there doing this you could point to?

Bump!

Where in the API can we access the sessionid so we can securely identify the user and portal they are using?

I suggest looking at DNN 5.6.1 and the new razor host module instead for RAD development, there is also a blog series by Charles Nurse.

I saw the series and thought it was great. Not ready to use 4.0 on our site yet, but soon will.

What I didn't see was how to secure webservices with the DNN security architecture. I see there's a module called iWeb, but I was really hoping for something simple or a solution built into the core.
