Hi All,

My live site (PokerDIY) has suffered 7 hours of downtime on Thursday and 4 hours yesterday due to failed 5.1.2 upgrades from 4.9.4. I really need some advice please.

This is the situation:

  • I cloned my live site. I then had it upgaded to 5.1.2. It worked fine. There are no errors in the SQL data log files.
  • So immediately, I had my live site upgraded. It's gets some Application Error (generic). I had it rolledback
  • So then I try to SWITCH the cloned test site to be the live site
  • Once it's back up, everything fails with the message below (I can't get to SiteSettings, Module Defs etc)
  • I don't understand - if it is worked at test.pokerdiy.com, why would switching it to a different IIS process (www.pokerdiy.com) cause it to fail?
  • I am running Ifinity (I am not blaming Bruce, just have to state this as it is problably related somewhere down the line ;) and PageBlaster
  • This has literally caused 11 hours of downtime on my live site and I think I have aged about 10 years. (Rollbacks take ages)

Here are a few errors from my error log (a search of the forum revealed nothing useful):

So please let me know if you have any ideas. The logical thing to do is clone the live site, upgrade it and switch it once it is working, but this does not work....

For the record I am running .NET 2.0 and have the right version of the AJAXToolkit in the bin.

Hi Rodney,

This suggestion may not go anywhere as I am in no way as seasoned as you with DNN but it did give me issues when I followed a similar methodology as you in my upgrade from 4.8.3 to 5.1.2. My scenario was to have 3 sites running, a live site, test site, and development site. I would go from development to testing and finally live when upgrading.

A mistake I made recently was fairly simple to correct. Once I had my test site upgraded and ready to go, I then backed it up (directory and db) and got ready to unzip it to my live site. I unzipped this back up to my live site without first deleting all the previous files in the directory and this caused all kinds of issues when I brought the new site up. Once I went back and deleted all the files in the directory and then unzipped my files that were part of my successful test site upgrade, my live site came up fine and I was able to change the portal alias and make this my new live site.

This was a simple mistake by me and you may not have done anything similar. Just trying to keep the thread moving and offer any suggestions that might lead to a solution.

Paul
