My production site is now upgraded to DNN 4.6.2.  My eventual goal is 4.9.5, but at the current level the old Gallery module, which we use a lot, is still working.  My plan is to sit here at 4.6.2 until the new Gallery module is released and then upgrade.  But every time I log into my production site as Host, I get a big red message at the top saying "Critical Upgrades Available."  This also shows next to the "Upgrade available?" line in the Host Settings page.

Is there some intermediate level between 4.6.2 and 4.9.5 that I should upgrade to?  Is there some kind of security hole I need to worry about?  If there's an intermediate package I should try, I can install it in test and see if the old Gallery still works with it...

As far as DNN is concerned, go straight to 4.9.5. Since you say that you would test the gallery against whatever the version, why not anyway. Besides, there are random and sundry security alerts even through v4.9.4 i think. Sounds like you would know how to backup and rollback if you needed to.

No; the recommendation here is to upgrade to 4.9.5 as soon as is feasible.

Take a moment to review the DotNetNuke security policy; note that there are a number of issues (including critical issues) that exist for 4.6.2 and subsequent versions.

Hope this helps!

Erik, Brandon, thanks for taking the time to respond.  I'll have to think about it.  I understand the security issues, but an upgrade to 4.9.4 (all I've tested; I assume 4.9.5 is about the same) disables a module that we rely on, specifically the old Gallery module, which we use for advertising purposes; as of 4.6.2 it still works for us, in defiance of expectations.  If I can't wait for the upgraded Gallery module now in test I'll have to look for a free 3rd party photo module and spend hours rebuilding my photo displays; I'm told the new module will just read my existing Gallery configuration.  You can see how this appeals to me.  Any suggestions for a free 3rd party photo display module that will read my Gallery 3.x configuration??  Or at least one that would be easy to set up?
