I'm just trying to rule out DNN as possibly causing the issue but I have a site on discountasp.net that recently keeps giving me 503 errors.. The only thing that's changed recently was I updated to the latest DNN like 3 weeks ago

I talked to discount and they said the sites using like 75% of the servers resources..

I checked the IIS Logs of the site and the only thing being accessed at those points in time is a SWF

www.djevenflo.com/portals/5/images/death-by-fidget.swf
In the portal

Is there something DNN does that would be eating up resources with this file's being accessed?

Or is this something that's just straight to the server?

access to images and swf is performed directly by the web server (except using HTTP link handler, identficable by "linkclick.aspx").

if the site is not accessed at all, the application will not be compiled. Do you have special modules or widgets installed?

 Yea that's what I figured...

The report from them is "The application pool hosting your web site was disabled due to sustained CPU usage"

The only NON DNN modules I have installed are the IFinity url rewriter and the google sitemap provider
I have a couple really basic modules I wrote but nothing that does any sort of system level processing

The file was a 2.5 MB SWF that's acted as promotional material across lots of like social networking spaces and what not...
It's being downloaded from different locations at least once a minute sometimes more than that

So I'm guessing that might have been the issue :-/
Can too much access to an SWF file drive a servers CPU Usage up to over 75 percent for a sustained amount of time?

I was kind of hoping it was just a problem with the provider but I had this same problem when I first upgraded to 5.1 from 5.0.1 in that the site would just stop responding because of resources being used..

I downloaded the site to my local system and it runs ok for a little bit but now when I try to go to it it just sits there for a really long time and than eventually says

Server Application Unavailable

I checked the event viewer and it says

aspnet_wp.exe  (PID: 4908) stopped unexpectedly.

My DNN installation is pretty much straight default are there any ideas you have or help on how I can debug this to figure out why my DNN installation is killing the aspnet_wp?

When I attach a debugger I just get a massive amount of System.ArgumentExceptions I told it to throw an exception on these and it's getting a stack overflow that looks like this
